Top Ten Anticipated Movies of 2014 (that haven’t already come out.)

Hi all!

So since I’m something of a movie freak, I decided to start my first top ten list with my most anticipated movies of the year! (that haven’t already come out).

It’s been a fun year at the movies, if slightly less than last year, and I’ve already seen many movies that would potentially make my top ten list for best film this year. But that will have to wait till year’s end. For now, let’s count down my most anticipated movies for the rest of the year! ūüėÄ

10. Exodus: Gods and Kings

For me, this brings to mind The Prince of Egypt (1998), which I actually really liked. I’m actually really interested to see what a big budget, live-action version of this story would look like on screen; I’ve seen the trailer, and honestly it looks pretty awesome. That last scene there? Epic. Oh, and I think Sigourney Weaver will do great as Tuya. I watched Noah earlier this year, and really liked that. Seems like Hollywood is really into remaking biblical tales now. Excited for this one. Let’s see how it turns out, shall we?

9. Birdman

I mean, have you seen the cast?! This looks like it’s going to be reeaally fun to watch. I’ve seen the trailer and it’s… interesting, if a bit hard to grasp at points. So, just in case you have no idea what Birdman is about, it’s about a once famous actor (played by Michael Keaton), who used to play an iconic superhero (Birdman), and is now trying to mount a broadway play on it. Nowadays they usually have one comedy that goes big at the Oscars, and I’ve a feeling it’s this one. Definitely keeping my eyes on this one.

8. Horrible Bosses 2

The first one was downright HILARIOUS. I know what they say about sequels, but honestly I’m REALLY excited for this. The teaser trailer that was released a while back? Gold.

7. Guardians of the Galaxy

Ok, so this one is hitting theatres really soon, but I had to put it in here. I’m guessing this is kind of a “wild card” movie from Marvel, but from what I’ve seen, I think it’s just going to add even more to Marvel’s already colossal film franchise. The trailers and previews all looked¬†awesome. That annoying song even got stuck in my head for a while lol. Really hoping this one’s good. You can bet¬†I’ll be there in my local theatre the first day this is out.

6(tie). Big Hero 6

6. (tie) The Book of Life

The-Book-of-Life-1

I guess you could probably say these are my animated picks for the year. And honestly, I couldn’t decide between them, since they both look SO good. It’s been a pretty good year for animation; The Lego Movie and How To Train Your Dragon 2 are brought to my mind quickly; two films that I would be glad to put on my Top Ten List at the end of the year. So after I watched the trailer for these two, (well, the one for Big Hero 6 was an incredibly short teaser) I was¬†pretty¬†hyped up. The Book of Life may have the slight edge, here, since it’s by Guillermo Del Toro (whose work I loove) and the animation looks¬†stunning.¬†But then again, after Frozen, my faith in Disney was kind of restored (well, kinda), and the animation there looks really clean and amazing too, if slightly less colourful and eccentric looking as TBOL. Either way, these two are going to be¬†real¬†treats for me :D.

5. Into The Woods

I think if any musical is going to stand a chance at the Oscars this year, it’s this one. I mean, that is some¬†strong¬†acting power. Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt (sorry, Chris). These are actually some of my favourite people in the movie business. And I guess if there’s any movie this year where I’m driven to by the cast, it’s this. I haven’t actually watched the Broadway production of it, (I know, shame on me, right?) but I’ve heard it’s emotional, funny and heartwarming; just the kind of thing I want to hear that’ll gets me¬†super excited for this. PLEASE don’t pull a Maleficent. I¬†really want this to be good.

4. Love, Rosie

So I guess this is my romcom/chickflick pick of the year. The book it’s based on, Where Rainbows End by Cecilia Ahern, is actually one of my favourite books of all time. I even liked it better than The Notebook (ugh, no hate please). When I watched the trailer, there was just this¬†feeling¬†crawling up my skin, like nostalgia but not really that? I don’t know, it felt kind of “goose-ish?” (is that even a word). I guess I really felt for both of them, since their ending was really bittersweet and honestly it actually brought tears to my eyes. I know, I found that strange too. Anyway, I won’t spoil anything, you can go wiki it for a little more info, but seriously READ THE BOOK FIRST for this one. I’m hoping that they stay¬†as close¬†as possible to the book, though I’ve honestly seen some differences which would make sense, since if the entire book were translated into a movie, I suspect it’s probably going to be at least 3 hours long. Quick note on the cast: I thought Lily Collins and Sam Claflin were really good choices for this one; if it’s as good as the book, I might even start seeing them as Rosie and Alex after this instead of Clary and Finnick :).

3. The Hobbit – Battle of Five Armies

maxresdefault-600x337

Ok, honestly, if the first two movies in the Hobbit trilogy had been as good or even came close to the standard of LOTR, this would be have my top pick. Like,¬†hands down. Period. Case closed. But after the first two, which were kind of like¬†meh,¬†I’m not too sure about this one. I’m hoping Peter Jackson pulls a Return of the King and produces the movie of a lifetime but at this point I’m really unsure. Quite conflicted about this one. But it’s here, well, because it’s the Hobbit.

2. The Hunger Games Mockingjay – Part 1

So this just had to be here. I mean, what can I say. It’s The Hunger Games. (Mockingjay: Part 1) Well, tbh I don’t really have much to say about this yet. I mean, I know it’s going to be¬†good, though right now I’m not all that hyped up yet. Let’s wait for the trailer. Then we’ll start talking.

1. Interstellar

Number 1!!!! Interstellar! OK THIS ONE. First, I ADORE pretty much anything by Christopher Nolan. Next, THE CAST, oh and HAVE YOU SEEN THE TRAILER? This really looks like it’s going to be the Gravity of this year. (I¬†loved¬†Gravity by the way) And honestly, I want this to¬†blow me away. Like, seriously. I¬†really want this to be awesome. And if it does, I’ll be rooting for it all the way up till Oscar night.

Well… that’s it. I’m kind of a newbie at this kind of things. To be honest, it’s my first blog post, so I know it’s far from perfect, but give me time. I have exams for the next week or so, so I probably won’t be able to post anything for at least that amount of time, but I’ll try to get something else up ASAP! Please comment and share this with your friends, it’ll mean the world :).
